  • Overview

    PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: The Inventory Specialist is responsible  for  operating  a  variety  of  material  handling  equipment  for  the  purpose  of  moving,  locating,  relocating,  stacking  and  counting  merchandise.  The equipment utilized in these functions is forklifts, slip sheets, and clamps.    The Inventory Specialist  is  also  responsible  for  order  selection  and  checking  as  the  need  dictates.  The Inventory Specialist must be self-motivated and work with a minimal amount of supervision. 


    Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Accuracy of all paperwork produced.
    • Follow all customer requirements.
    • Assist supervision/management as needed.
    • Follow company policies, guidelines and work instructions.
    • Maintain professional relationship with the carriers and customers.



    Include the following. Other duties as assigned.

    • Enter data for quantities of various items in warehouse issued and transferred between locations, inventory and cycle count adjustments into computer database.
    • Troubleshoot quantity discrepancies with supervisors and management.
    • Record and monitor all items with shelf-life daily and notify appropriate personnel when material has expired.
    • Prepare monthly reports for cycle count and pick-lists count for monthly highlights.
    • Prepare and participate in yearly physical inventories.
    •  Rescue all cases and dumped pallet asked by leadership, in a timely manner, only rescue dumped pallets with another employee at all times, not by yourself
    • Any priority work assigned by management or customer service
    • Inventory supervisor, superintendent, or warehouse supervisor will email or inform employee any task that needs to be completed. Work can also be found in the mail box hanging on the wall.
    • Fix all customer service receipts as requested.
    • Re-temp all receipts supplied by customer service.
    • Check for mixed code dates.
    • Fix customer take weights.
    • Locate missing cases by running N-status reports
    • Move pallets from cooler to freezer.
    • Take care of all damaged cases and any issues outside inventory office.
    • Handle all other warehouse and customer service issues.
    • Run daily reports and follow through with any outstanding issues.
    • Investigate all over shorts and damages and verify claims
    • Conduct all freezer audits
    • Perform location spot checks for up to 4 hours of the shift
    • Clean up damaged locations weekly.
    • Make sure good cases are accounted for
    • Clear any exposed product and fill out damaged sheets



    • Maintain a professional manner in appearance and communications at all times.
    • Participate in staff and/or customer meetings if required.
    • Develop PC/tablet skills to perform any e-mailing, reports, label preparation, order release, driver sign-out, inventory checks and/or any type of PC/tablet function necessary for that specific area.  


    Safety, Housekeeping, Security

    • Safety glasses, seat belts, and ID badges must be worn if associates are on forklifts.
    • Follow posted security procedures at all times while in the building.
    • Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work/lunch room area. 
    • Required to attend Ammonia Training Class yearly.


    Responsibility and Authority

    • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to product, process, and quality systems.
    • Identify and record any issues relating to product, processes and/or quality.
    • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through appropriate channels.
    • Verify the implementation of solutions.



    The  requirements  that  an  individual  must  absolutely  posses  to  perform  the  essential  functions  of  the  job :

    • Capable of operating forklifts and their attachments.
    • Have good arithmetic skills.
    • Be able to read.
    • Capable of following verbal and written instructions.
    • Available to work various shifts.
    • Capable of standing and walking extended periods of time.
    • Pass written and driving forklift exam.
    • Understand and follow company policy as stated in the employee handbook.

    Education:                               High School Degree required

    Experience:                             Forklift training and experience

                                                    -Checking and Loading experience.

                                                    -Previous inventory experience preferred

                                                    -Able to analyze information gathered in order to identify potential problems or discrepancies.

                                                    - Ability to properly handle confidential information and records.

                                                    -PC and Computer applications (MS Exel, Word etc.)

    • Stand, walk; use hands and feet to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.
    • Use of scanners, telephones, and warehouse machinery.
    • The employee must be capable of occasionally lifting up to 70 lbs.
    • The employee must be capable of enduring heights up to 50 feet.
    • Work longer hours as needed to satisfy customer and USCS daily and seasonal requirements.
    • Drive a registered motor vehicle to satisfy daily requirements.
    • Able to lift and move product above head.
    • Have acceptable and / or correctable vision.



    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:  The characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

    • Work in an atmosphere range of + 50 to - 30 degrees F.
    • The noise level in the work area is usually moderate.
    • Personal interaction and communication required to and from other people is extremely high.
    • Daily workflow is fast paced, dependent on daily and seasonal customer and USCS company requirements.
