  • Overview


    The Carrier Procurement Specialist is responsible for effectively supporting operations by procuring carriers, maintaining carrier relationships, and negotiating rates.  This position is responsible for increasing USCS Logistics managed volume by securing capacity with new carriers.   


    Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Responsible for procuring carriers for the United States Cold Storage network
    • Maintain relationships with carriers through meetings, email communications, and reporting.
    • Increase USCS Logistics managed volume of regional CSC loads by securing capacity with new carriers
    • Support current COLDshare consolidation programs through carrier procurement and relationships
    • Develop a culture of continuous process improvement and key performance indicators (KPI) to maintain a carrier scorecard using internal feedback and data provided by multiple sources/tools.
    • Conducts & drives process driven procurement activities in support of large/small scale national, regional, and local bids. This includes the end-to-end process bid strategy, carrier negotiations, & execution in partnership with peers.
    • Stay current with market prices and conditions to effectively negotiate with carriers
    • Responsible for delivering against financial & operational KPIs.
    • Follow all customer requirements.
    • Follow company policies, guidelines and work instructions.
    • Maintain professional relationship with the carriers and customers.
    • Strong desire to drive continuous improvement

    • Ability to organize and lead meetings
    • Ability to present ideas and results to senior level management
    • Ability to read and understand carrier contracts
    • Provide national carrier pricing as requested
    • Ability to travel up to 25% of time

    Education:                               Bachelor’s Degree Required

    Experience:                             2+ years of Transportation experience preferred.

    -Excellent communication skills, written and oral.

    - PC, leadership and planning skills helpful.

    -Experience in Mercury Gate, Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.

    - Ability to thrive in a constantly changing chaotic environment and consistently meet tight timeline.

                                                    -Ability to coordinate with contracted trucking dispatchers and drivers

    - Must be able to fill out bills of lading and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by the major freight carriers.
